Students with a high proficiency in Spanish who are interested in an immersion experience will enjoy this program. TCU arranges for students to enroll at the U. of Mayor in Santiago Chile. Universidad Mayor offers a range of courses taught in Spanish, including Business, Design, Communications, Social Work, Dance/Theatre/Arts, Psychology, Nursing/Nutrition, and Education. In addition, students may take an intensive Spanish course for one month prior to the start of the semester.

CIEE Santiago, Dominican Republic
Semester Program
This program is designed for students with two-years of college-level Spanish or the equivalent and an interest in Caribbean area studies. Santiago de los Caballeros, the second largest city in the Dominican Republic, is surrounded by mountains. Places of historical, cultural, and ecological interest are nearby and easy to get to, and it is just a little over an hour’s drive to the Atlantic Coast. Known as La Ciudad Corazón (City of the Heart), Santiago is the commercial and cultural center of the fertile Cibao Valley region. Although it is a growing city with a population exceeding 700,000, Santiago retains many features of a small town, and Santiaguero hospitality is known far and wide.
Program Overview
- Experience life in a developing Caribbean country and learn first-hand about the daily realities of Dominican society, culture, and politics
- Optional community service course with a practicum in the areas of public health/medicine, education, or neighborhood assistance, and optional ESL teacher training course with a hands-on teaching practicum

- Participate in a Spanish-only language policy at the IES Center
- Choose from two program options: the IES Area Studies and Language Program and the USFQ Direct Enrollment Program
- Enroll in partner university courses at either the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador (PUCE) and the Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales (FLACSO), or the Universidad San Francisco de Quito (USFQ)

Summer Program
Designed for students interested in environmental studies in South America, IES Quito summer program offers language study and combines coursework with field visits to give you the opportunity to explore the richness of Ecuador's ecology in various parts of the country and to discuss a range of issues related to environmental management and conservation. The program is organized in cooperation with the Galápagos Academic Institute for Arts and Sciences (GAIAS) and courses are offered in English. No prior study of Spanish is required.
